Qingzang Railroad

The Qinghai Tibet Railway stretches from Xining, capital of Qinghai Province to Lhasa, Tibet, extending the "World's Roof" Qingzang Plateau. Put into operation in 2006, Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the world's highest and longest plateau railroad and also the first railway connecting the Tibet autonomous region with the rest of China. About 960 kilometers of the railway line is more than 4,000 meters above sea level with the highest point reaching 5,072 meters. And about 550 kilometers of the tracks run on frozen earth. All trains are air conditioned, pressurized and include Oxygen to keep passengers from suffering altitude sickness. Qinghai Tibet Plateau is the starting point of many of China's rivers. Great care has been taken to protect the unique, fragile and sensitive geographical environment when building the Qinghai Tibet Railway.
More than 3000 tourists are taking trains to reach Lhasa every day through this railway. Although traveling to Tibet via railway does take much longer than by plane, you will be so lucky to be the witness to thousands of miles of the most stunning landscapes in the world, rolling by outside your window. The prosperous tour via Tibet trains will also boost the leap-forward progress in Tibet socially and economically. In order to give travellers better opportunity to enjoy the passing views and get great pictures, nine scenery viewing platforms have been set up at nine stations along the railway. Some of the famous charming sights on the line are Qinghai Lake and Bird Island, Mount Kunlun, Tanggula Mountain, Nyainqentanglha Ranges, Kekexili Natural Reserve, Tuotuo Rivers, Yangpachen and Potala Palace etc. Travel to Tibet via Qinghai Tibet Railway will become a memorable experience of lifetime.

Question:I heard that the Qinghai Tibet Railway passes Kekexili, the place I’m dreaming to see one day. Is that true? So, if I take a train to Tibet, can I see Tibetan antelopes on the way?

Answer:Correct, Qinghai Tibet railway passes Kekexili Natural Reserve where is the hometown of Tibetan antelope. However, it is rare to see them unless you take the train during their migration every year from July to August. But it still depends on your luck. Besides, you can also see other Tibetan animals like yak, along the Qinghai Tibet Railway.

Question:I heard that the Qinghai-Tibet railway will stop for few minute when the train arrives at Tangkula Mountains for passengers to take photos. Is it correct?

Answer:As far as I know, it won’t stop at Tangkula Mountains, but it will stop few minutes at an artificial wetland for people to take photos. Anyway, whenever the Qinghai-Tibet railway gets to an attraction, the train will broadcast its info and give an introduction to the passengers, which will make people have a better understanding about the photos and pictures they take.
