  • Chamdo Prefecture, possessing a strategic geographical position, is regarded as the East Gate of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is located in eastern Tibet, contiguous with Sichuan Province to the east, Yunnan Province to the south and Qinghai Province to the north. It has a total population of 583,600, accounting for 12% of the total population of Tibet Autonomous Region. The Chamdo Prefecture has an average altitude of over 3,500 meters, with a unique topography and wonderful landscapes. It is the cradle of the Khamba culture, the most characteristic part in Tibet. This region enjoys convenient transportation, tourist facilities and good telecommunications, scattered many tourist attractions, ancient monasteries, buildings and steles. Around Chamdo, there are splendid sceneries of "Sacred Mountain and Holy Lake" of the Buddhism, Hinduism and the indigenous religion-Bon.
