Tibet Military Permit
Tibet Military Permission
Military Permit (Permission) is issued by Military Affairs Office in Lhasa. It is required if you are planning to travel to military sensitive places and the border areas such as Mt Kailash, some areas of Ngari, Nyingchi and Nagqu and eastern Tibet. For the special overland tour to Tibet from Sichuan, Yunnan, Xinjiang and Qinghai, Military Permission is a must. All these should be arranged by the travel agency. We will try our best to arrange the Military Permit for our customers who booked tours with us. To help apply the Military Permission, we will need you to provide your passport, Chinese visa, Tibet Entry Permit and perhaps Alien Travel Permit (PSB). It normally takes 1-2 weekdays and the cost is RMB100/person.

Areas require Military Permit/Permission:
Ngari: all places, such as Mt. Kailash, Lake Manasorovar.
Nyingtri: all places you may visit such as Draksumtso, Pomi etc.
Chamdo: all places you may visit such as Chamdo, Riwoche etc.
Overland from/to Sichuan, Yunnan, Xinjiang or Qinghai
Military Permit is not needed for overland tour from Lhasa to Katmandu or vice Versa. If you don't plan to travel areas in Tibet which are regarded to be military sensitive, you don't have to worry about that issue.
