Palkhor Monastery
Located at south of Lhasa and east of Shigatse, Palkhor Monastery is a unique Tibetan monastery which is home to monks from three different sects in harmony and the only monastery known to do this. Thus, the designs and items within the monastery are very unique. The main assembly hall of the monastery, Tshomchen, is three stories tall and was built between the fourteenth and fifteenth century.
Kumbum Stupa
Palkhor Monastery also houses a Stupa, which is called Kumbum in Tibetan language, meaning hall of 10,000 Buddhist figures. It was built in 1412, consists of hundreds of chapels that have thousands of iconic images inside. The Stupa is over 30 meters and has 9 tiers with 108 gates and 77 chapels, shrines and chortens on it.
