• Yamdrok Yumtso Lake
  • Located about 100 kilometers to the southwest of Lhasa, on the north bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, Yamdrok Lake is one of the largest lakes in Tibet and one of the three holy lakes in the region. The lake is 60 meters at its deepest point and has an area of 638 sq km. The surroundings of the lake are calm and peaceful and it is a great place to relax and enjoy the clear sky and fresh air of Tibet. The lake is also called Coral Lake of the Highlands due to its shape. The elegant tells that a fairy maiden left the Heaven and turned into the lake on earth. There are more than 10 islands in the lake; the large one can hold about 6 households while the small one is just about 100 square meters. The lake is rich in fish, which can not only meet the need of Lhasa, but also be sold in inland market. It is also the largest habitat for water birds in north Tibet.
